Minimum wage in Brazil cannot feed a family study says

A UPI report from Rio de Janeiro describes how 43 percent of Brazilian workers earn roughly $70 a month or less. A DIEE study shows a minimum wage requires excessive hours to buy a basic diet, forcing families to cut meals, pool income, and rely on extended family support in the Salgueiro slum and nearby areas.

End of the good old days for whites in South Africa

A UPI report depicts whites in Johannesburg and suburbs facing a stark view of Alexandra, Soweto, and other townships amid riots since mid June. The violence has killed over 200, with blacks arrested for arson and looting, while some whites fear leaving the country. Government officials urge calm and concessions, but black militancy grows, fueled by opposition to Afrikaans as a school language.
