Gov Philip H. Hoff will head a delegation of state and local officials Oct 8 to welcome Globe Union Inc of Milwaukee to Vermont and Bennington County. BCIC says the ceremony at the new plant site east of North Bennington Road begins 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by a luncheon at Four Chimneys Restaurant.

AMA President Stricken During Wyoming Medical Meeting
Dr. Norman A. Welch of Boston, president of the American Medical Association, suffered a heart attack while attending a Wyoming State Medical Society session at Jackson Lake Lodge. He is joined by officials and staff in the event, as construction proceeds on Globe Union’s new storage battery plant in town. The 132000 square foot facility, costing over 2 million dollars, is slated for completion next spring with about 125 workers, mostly men, to be employed.

Foote claims victory in reapportionment bid despite ruling
Lt. Gov. Ralph A. Foote said he won his effort to intervene in the reapportionment case though a federal judge refused standing. Governor Hoff rejected Foote’s call for an immediate special session and constitutional convention while appeals proceed. Two Supreme Court appeals have been filed to extend the Legislature’s authority beyond April 1, 1965, which Foote called sham.

Petersburg Youth Dies In Car Crash
Petersburg, N Y police report a single vehicle crash on Route 22 killed 21 year old Vincent Moon who rode as a passenger. Driver Dennis Moon 18 and companion Lawrence Church 16 were hospitalized with extensive head injuries after the car left the road and struck guard posts. The crash occurred at 12 15 a m with excessive speed noted.

RFK Quits As Atty Gen and Seeks Senate Seat

Vermont escapee jailed again after prison break
RATON New Mexico UPD reports Joseph A. Gobeil 25, a Montreal lumberjack, jailed six weeks after he and guitarist Herbert Ovitt escaped Essex County Jail Guildhall Vermont. Gobeil picked up for burglary in Albuquerque and is wanted for breaking into a Roman Catholic church at Canaan with about $5 stolen. Ovitt remains at large.

Goldwater vows to end the draft amid attack on Johnson

Senate approves LBJ health care for aged with private insurance edge
In Washington the Senate narrowly backed President Johnson’s health care for the aged plan. Five Republicans backed the bill including an amendment for private insurance backed supplementary medical care. Among them was Sen. Margaret Chase Smith of Maine who supported the amendment and the bill. The other four New England Republicans opposed, while all seven regional Democrats voted for the measure.

The Mt Anthony Union School Board meets tonight at Bennington Elementary to decide between two sites for a proposed new high school. The Town Farm site between Willow and East roads and a tract east of Park Street owned by the Vermont Soldiers' Home are under consideration.
