BILL MARKS, 28, finished a 21 month journey from San Diego to Calais Maine. He aims to promote cross country routes for horses bicycles mopeds and hikers to encourage energy saving travel and time to enjoy landscapes and meet people. He faced minor confrontations but found most people friendly and accommodating. He spent about 4000 dollars funded by selling his belongings and odd jobs and lectures. He once staged a three day hunger strike after a toll bridge denial. Outside Maryland the country seemed open to travel by horse.
