Vermont ruling limits state aid for indigent transients
Vermont Attorney General Charles J. Adams ruled that the state or towns are not liable to reimburse or provide free medical care to an indigent person who travels from another state to Vermont for treatment. The decision says free care applies only to indigents ill while in Vermont, not those ill in a different state who then come to Vermont for care. Adams noted no compulsion on New York to reimburse Vermont for such patient care.
