NCAA punishes Kansas State and Tulsa with three year probation
The NCAA council placed Kansas State University and the University of Tulsa on three year probation for violations in recruiting and financial aid to student athletes. Jacksonville University was censured for paying Artis Gilmore in 1969. Marshall University and LaSalle College were restored to good standing.

Flood reluctant over $100,000 contract signing
New York UPI report says Curt Flood, aged 32, may be the first reluctant signer of a $100,000 major league deal. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn will block a contract without the reserve clause. Flood notes business reverses and his need for money, while recounting higher offer from Bob Short to play for the Senators next season. He may sign a standard contract while continuing the legal challenge to the reserve clause.
