Charles Fienberg dies after 81 years in Bennington business
Charles Fienberg of 208 Washington Ave native of Russia died at 81 Wednesday at Putnam Memorial Hospital. He helped steer Bennington business and Jewish community life and served in hospital and service groups. Funeral Friday at 1 30 p m Hanson Walbridge Funeral Home with Rabbi Winters officiating. Burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Born March 9 1895 to Abraham and Bella Fienberg he opened his first Bennington store in 1919 with his brother later forming Henry Charles Co. The Fienberg name became Fienberg Stores in 1948 after Audrey and Joseph LaChant joined. He retired about 8 1/2 years ago. He also worked with Francis E Morrissey as Ike and Mike. He was a longtime member of Bennington’s Industrial Committee.
