Town to sue over Putnam Deed water policy in Bennington

Bennington plans a winter chancery court declaratory judgement against the Putnam Deed of Gift to lift spending limits on the town water system. The suit targets Putnam Memorial Hospital as beneficiary, with potential higher water rates and bigger sinking fund allocations if restrictions are removed.

Pownal Board Silent On Teachers' Plea Deadline

County job study urges vocational training in Bennington

A Bennington County Regional Planning Commission report urges school systems to expand vocational training to curb out-migration and unemployment. It notes 75 percent of graduates seek jobs outside Vermont, despite $800 million in state education spending. Manufacturing anchors the economy, with 16 plants employing about 4,000 in 1970.

Millionaires Demand Reforms as Price for Political Contributions

A New York luncheon of 60 wealthy donors at the 21 Club urged Presidential contenders to back congressional and government reforms, campaign finance limits, and public financing.
