Justice Department Probes Yankees Sale to CBS Again

The Justice Department said it is still examining the sale of the New York Yankees to CBS and has not decided whether to advise for or against the deal. Commissioner Ford Frick denied a DOJ advisory, and CBS and AL officials voiced no knowledge of such action. The sale, worth about 11.2 million for 80 percent, is due to close November 2, with potential Department action to halt before then. Several AL owners, including Arthur Allyn and Charles Finley, criticized the inquiry and pressed for baseball to handle the matter, while Cronin and Frick offered cautious comment.
