Bennington Selectmen unveiled seven appointees for the townwide water board as the village system cedes control Jan 1. Three appointees come from the village water board and include Seymour G. Schultz Edward Ransom and Herbert J. Horst. Remaining members include Norman Stratton Kenneth Couch Gerald Morrissey and William R Scott. Scott and his wife lease the watershed area of Woodford and Glastonbury to the town for the Boles Brook expansion.

First coed arrested on Kent indictments
Mary Helen Nicholas, 22, Akron, becomes the 11th person named in the Kent State University campus shooting indictments. She is charged with interference with firemen at the scene of the fire at the ROTC building on May 2, two days before National Guardsmen fired into demonstrators. Nicholas surrendered in Ravenna Portage County. Kent State President Robert S. White seeks court permission to allow testifiers to speak freely.

Cost of living up 0.5 percent in September across many categories
The U S government reports a 0.5 per cent September rise in the consumer price index guided by broad gains in clothing shelter transportation and auto insurance costs. Food edged lower 0.1 per cent but fruit and vegetables fell 3 per cent amid higher mortgage interest and home repair costs. American wins Nobel Peace Prize in 1970
