Hoff calls for Medicare rollout in Vermont by 1967
Gov. Philip Hoff urged full Medicare implementation in Vermont by Oct. 1, 1967 as part of an expanded welfare program to grant new dignity to the aged ill and needy. The plan would shift welfare grants and administration costs to the state, saving municipalities about 4 million in the next two fiscal years and near 6 million in subsequent two year periods. Hoff noted food budgets for the blind disabled and dependent children would be updated to 1965 costs and urged state takeover of all welfare programs to maximize municipal savings, while promising benefits before the 1975 deadline for those in need.
