Vermont hunters report strong opening weekend across waterfowl and bow season
The Vermont Fish and Game Department notes good waterfowl numbers during opening weekend of the 50 day season with many three duck limits and some geese taken. A Shelburne party bagged 3 Canada geese over nine decoys as thousands were seen overhead. Enforcement will intensify with a larger warden force and stricter hours. Bow season through Oct 26 shows 165 deer taken in five days, with 50 50 bucks and does and nonresidents leading. Top bear weights include 278 pound boar by Thomas Luther in Newark and 264 tally by Germaine Choinere Orleans. Cubs are scarce this year.
