No Nobel Peace Prize This Year

The Norwegian Peace Prize Committee announced it would defer the Nobel Peace Prize for 1966, offering no reason. The five member panel, appointed by Parliament, oversees the award of the $58,000 prize. This marks the third postwar postponement in the prize’s history, following earlier deferrals in 1952, 1960 and other years.

Shaftsbury Residents Briefed on U S 7 Relocation Plan H

Hundreds of property owners crowded Cole Hall Tuesday night for a briefing from the state highway department on Plan H the new est and currently the official route for relocating U S 7 through Shaftsbury. Spokesmen for the department outlined the plan and fielded questions from residents.

Hoff Aides Organize Fair Taxes Committee

The Independent Citizens Committee for Fair Taxes was formed by Hoff administration aides in Vermont. William Kearns and Thomas Davis helped establish it, while Davis defended his right to comment on issues affecting Vermont’s needy families. The group denounced Richard Snelling’s tax plan amid a debate scene as plans for Plan H and highway routes were discussed elsewhere in Shaftsbury.

Compromise Reached In Viet Cabinet Crisis

In Saigon Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky and seven dissident cabinet ministers agreed to pause the cabinet crisis until after next week's Manila conference. Two ministers tore up resignations while five stayed on awaiting Ky's return with President Johnson and regional leaders. The dissidents had accused Ky of regional bias and police-state tendencies amid monsoon warfare and looming offensives.
