Fire Dorman Truck Destroyed by Blaze
A 1953 Dodge truck used to haul rubbish and owned by Philip Dorman of 23 Bradford Place was destroyed in a fire behind his home in Bennington. Fire Chief Richard Hollister said the cause was undetermined though smoldering debris is suspected. The blaze was fought by about 10:45 p.m. with quick containment. Also in town, the Bennington PTA holds its first meeting of the school year Tuesday October 26 at 7 30 p.m. in the all purpose room with officers and teachers introduced and a kindergarten parents meeting in the multi purpose room. Membership cards cost 75 cents. In Pownal, a small frame feed building near Green Mountain Park stables burned last night but barns and horses were not endangered. Major Ray Smith credited a rapid three minute response by the Pownal Fire Department at 9 45 p.m. with keeping the fire under control. The feed building was eight to ten feet square, aluminum covered, and contained a small amount of hay.
