Bennington Hatchery Prepares Trout for Next Spring Season
Winter work at the Bennington Fish Hatchery on South Stream Road includes holding 75,000 one year fish and 200,000 fingerlings, receiving eggs from Pennsylvania Ontario and Canada, with 100,000 legal 9 to 11 inch trout slated for release next spring. The stocking plan runs April to Sept with the heaviest effort in April-June, serving Windham Rutland Windsor and Bennington counties. Foreman Frank Snow and helpers Clark Green Jr. and David Buck coordinate production to keep costs lower than state average.
