Republican gubernatorial hopeful Walter L. Kennedy canceled a week of television ads amid reports of campaign debt and limited party funding. Consultant Alexander Ray said ads paused for lack of prime time, with radio spots stressing taxes planned in place and a possible return to TV in the final 10 days.
President Ford testifies before the House Judiciary Committee that he had no knowledge of any pending charges against Richard Nixon when he pardoned him. He says the pardon was to shift focus from a fallen president to national problems and rejects claims of prior discussions with Nixon’s aides. Ford notes he sought to end Capitol Hill scrutiny and restore national unity amid Watergate fallout.
John W. Dean III testified that soon after the Watergate arrests he obtained confidential FBI reports and shared them with all five men on trial for the cover up. He said he briefed Ehrlichman in June 1972 and later relayed the FBI files to Mitchell Mardian and Parkinson, noting the documents bore FBI internal use markings.
Vermont statewide education aid will total 33.8 million dollars, up from 32 million last year, with checks issued after Thanksgiving. Washington (UPI) Nelson Rockefeller battles for urgent public hearings as Senator Cannon cites Laurence Rockefeller's 50 000 loan to a New York politician later convicted of bribery among reasons. Laurence defends the loan as proper and notes his later stock repayment and a 49 000 note.

Nelson A Rockefeller said his wife Happy underwent surgery to remove her left breast at Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute in New York City. He stated that three small lumps were found last Friday during a physical exam and that the operation began at 8:30 a.m. today. The disclosure followed Betty Ford's hospitalization for the same procedure.
Congress gave President Ford until December 10 to seek a Cyprus settlement before ending U S military aid to Turkey. Ford leaning toward veto. Nessen cited policing and peace talks concerns. The milder bill would permit aid through Dec 10 if none goes to Turkish troops on Cyprus.
At the Alfred E. Smith dinner in New York Secretary of State Henry Kissinger urged America to revive after Watergate and the Vietnam conflict. He warned against distrust and urged difficult choices, while joking about a recent plane mishap and his Irish marriage. Attendees included Cardinal Cooke Mayor Beame Javits Byrne and others.
