The Bennington Banner is published daily except Sundays and holidays by Banner Publishing Corporation located at 425 Main Street Bennington Vermont.
The new farm bill cleared by Congress aims to stabilize farmer incomes for four years at a cost of about 4 billion dollars annually. It expands cash subsidies to cotton and ties subsidies to reduced crop acreage, while retirement of up to 40 million cultivated acres is allowed. It seeks to aid U.S. farmers but risks limiting world food supply and ignores the needs of hungry populations abroad.
The Old Farmer's Almanac foresees above normal rainfall for 14 months and about one third more snow this winter. Ski resorts cheer the forecast, while Bennington area officials brace for traffic issues around the high school. A Manchester school wing dedication and a mysterious glowing object report also appear.
The 12 acre MBTA yards near Harvard Square is praised as the ideal location for the Kenney Memorial Library linking it to public transit and the life of the commonwealth and the university. Miss Elsie Niles of Dorset praises Banner photographs of the Dorset Hollow resort development. She commends the clear outlines of scenery and shadow, noting the images capture the landscape that Dorset Associates plans to develop with a 150-member legislature in District 32.
