Board rejects alternate site for CVPSC substation near Mont Anthony Union School
The Bennington South Supervisory board declined Central Vermont Public Service Corporation's plan to place a substation on school property just north of Congress Street, choosing instead to permit a substation at the eastern end of the lot with access to County Street. Residents on Congress Street urged a route along Congress, citing eyesore and property value concerns, while architects warned the board that the original plan would reduce trees and hindering future biology lab use. The board noted power service would continue via County Street lines regardless of site and discussed hiring a clerk of the works, bid procedures, and 21 alternate construction plans to fit budget.
