In San Francisco Chinatown hundreds of customers stormed the Chinatown branch of the San Francisco Federal Savings and Loan Association amid rumors the bank was folding. Nearly a thousand depositors withdrew over $1 million, lines reached the sidewalk, and officials urged customers to keep funds deposited as the bank remained open past 3 p.m. for operations. The run followed accusations against J. K. Choy over war on poverty policies, with officials denying any financial instability. The bank, founded 1935, touts assets of about $180 million.
