Two Benningtonians Build Pipe Organs in Homes

Reinhoud H. Van Der Linde, Bennington College math instructor, and Winfield D. Peck, IBM engineer, built and rebuilt pipe organs in a North Bennington home and a Bennington Village barn. Van Der Linde converted an 1890 Morey organ to a tracker system with eight ranks, while Peck, restoring a Frazee organ damaged by the 1961 Dorset Church explosion, converted from pneumatic to electric operation and expanded to seven ranks. They plan further amateur organ projects, with Ralph Lindsey already pursuing a Dorset organ and local residents enjoying the music without disturbing neighbors.
