State Emergency Board Upholds On Allocation of Student Funds
Deputy Attorney General Louis Peck upheld the Emergency Board decision to grant an extra 150000 to the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation for incentive awards and scholarships to 570 needy Vermont students. Ward Bedford argued the board lacks power for such appropriation and that no real emergency exists. Peck also ruled against a separate 90000 request for senatorial scholarships, saying the $3000 per senator annual cap can only be changed by the legislature.
