Nawrath Seeks New Opinion on State Pay Increases
Vermont lawmaker Rep. W Michael Nawrath obtained another legal view on nine governor granted raises totaling 19800 to high level state employees. Attorney William P Russell said the hikes conflict with the State Employees Pay Act restricting increases to lower echelon staff. Russell’s opinion counters an earlier advisory by A G Louis P Peck stating the governor could adjust salaries under two statutes. Nawrath may push for legislative action when it reconvenes in January.
