Hoff predicts $15 million more state aid for towns

Vermont Governor Phil Hoff told a Five Flys audience that rising state revenues should yield about 15 million in extra aid to towns over two years. He said education funding would rise and local welfare costs could be largely shifted away from towns, with only overseers of the poor handling welfare distribution. Hoff contrasted his view with Republican Richard Snelling who advocated a 3 percent sales tax, reduced income tax, and about 10 million returned to towns.
