Ireland’s population rose 2.2 percent on April 17, marking the second upswing since the great famine era. The gain of 62,411 brings total to 2,880,752, while emigration fell to 83,855. Yet rural depopulation worsens in Connacht, driving urban migration, housing and job pressures, and calls for ministerial resignation amid farming unrest.
