Vermont K-12 Union District Idea Raises School Board Debate
At the VSSDA annual meeting Senator Prouty discussed state financial incentives for K-12 union districts, a plan the group has resisted in the past. The Resolutions Committee chair, John Donoghue, notes the concept would offer equal educational opportunity and greater local control with incentive funds. Governor Hoff has pushed incentives to speed district reorganization, including a 10 percent boost in state aid proposed in 1966, but the measure was redirected to study the K-12 concept via a temporary advisory commission.
