Inez Rebuilds Spares Florida and Hit Bahamas Tornado
Hurricane Inez weakened as it spared populated south Florida and moved toward the Bahamas. A tornado spawned by the storm in Nassau killed a 15 month old and injured four others while winds above 100 mph ripped roofs and felled trees, flooding highways as rescue efforts continued. Weather warnings extended to the northern Bahamas and offshore Florida as Inez tracked northeast at about 7 mph with sea gales and heavy rain affecting the southeast coast.

Russia for the first time confirms Soviet army rocket specialists have trained North Vietnamese missile crews in Hanoi. A Red Star article notes at least one Soviet adviser team narrowly escaped death or injury during an American bombing raid while observers say Viet Namese crews used SAMs to down an American plane. Vermont Bar Backs CEO Cooperation in Legal Aid
The Vermont Bar Association voted 80 to 26 to let its board form a non profit corporation to cooperate with the state Office of Economic Opportunity in providing legal aid to the indigent. The move follows a Stratton meeting debate described as almost a revolution. The board rejected specific OEO liaison plans for five legal aid offices with clerical and legal staff at about 250000 dollars funded mostly by OEO. A committee will be formed to establish the corporation and outline a future relationship with OEO.

Jetliner Crashes In Oregon Kills 18 At Cascade Crest
A DC9 operated by West Coast Airlines crashed into the Cascade Mountain range near a 4000 foot ridge 30 miles southeast of Portland on a San Francisco to Seattle leg. All 18 aboard, 13 passengers and 5 crew, perished. CAB to lead a two to three week investigation with helicopter recovery due to rugged terrain. Pilot reported descent from 12,000 feet before disappearance at 8 p.m. PDT in 15 miles visibility and 3,500 foot ceiling.
