Brandon Man Dead Mistaken For a Bear
SHREWSBURY VI A 25 year old Brandon man was shot to death by a hunter who mistook him for a bear. James Wesley Giddings was accidentally shot by Billy R Johnson of Rutland in a wooded area. The regional medical examiner said Giddings was shot in the chest with a high powered hunting rifle and died instantly.

Troy Record Executive Dies at 50
Walter J. Kane, 50, vice president and treasurer of The Troy Record Co. and business manager of The Record Newspapers, died suddenly of a heart attack at his Green Island home. Kane joined in 1946, became business manager in 1954, director and treasurer in 1962, and vice president in 1963, coming a week after Frank L. York’s death.

Lockheed Wins C5A Contract For Giant Air Transport
Lockheed won a $2 billion Air Force contract to build the C5A jet transport. The Marietta, Georgia plant will produce a plane capable of carrying 600 troops or 250,000 pounds of cargo, with a civilian version possible for 700 passengers. Analysts expect Boeing to develop the fastest companion aircraft, the LST, and note potential low operating costs could drop transcontinental fares to about $50 and transatlantic fares to around $75.

Vermont Army Reserve units dissolved amid Viet Nam plan
Washington announced the Pentagon plan to dissolve 751 Army Reserve units including six infantry divisions to field 135,000 National Guard and 15,000 organized Reserve members.
