Paris. The Communist National Liberation Front joined North Vietnam in saying it will ignore the South Vietnamese delegation at expanded Paris talks on Vietnam. It rejected U S demands to stop fighting, insisting the conflict continues until American forces leave Vietnam and that the NLF is the true representative of South Vietnam. It accused Washington of portraying a two sided conference and demanded talks with the NLF. The Saigon puppet regime is called a tool of American aggression. The NLF says it agrees to participate in the Paris conference.

Scranton to Visit Mideast as Fact-Finder for Nixon
President elect Nixon named former Pennsylvania Governor William Scranton to lead a six nation fact finding mission in the Middle East. Scranton will meet leaders in Iran Lebanon United Arab Republic Saudi Arabia Jordan and Israel December 2 to 11 and report back with views on regional situations. He will not be asked to convey U S policy positions. Scranton previously served in the Eisenhower era and earlier toured Western Europe. The plan aims to stabilize the volatile region and counter Soviet influence while supporting Israel with armaments to maintain balance of power.

UVM Professor Dies in Shaftsbury House Fire
In Shaftsbury a morning fire gutted Helicon Farm home of John H. Hamlin killing his son-in-law Luther Zai a 35 year old UVM forestry professor. Three others injured include Wendy Hamlin Olive Dinwiddie and Mrs Gertrude Hamlin. Fire Appears to have started near a study fireplace. Vermont State Police investigate origin.
