Social Security offices hear complaints on nursing homes

Ball said the move, at Secretary Elliot Richardson’s request, aims to upgrade elder care and feed issues to proper authorities. The plan foreshadows ombudsmen in states to handle complaints and advise on alternatives to nursing homes. Medicare surveys have prompted facility improvements, with over 100 extended care facilities losing Medicare approval and 43 more warned.
