Three University of Vermont graduate students examined Lake Willoughby over a weekend, testing temperature, oxygen, transparency, and bottom conditions. They found cold, well oxygenated water, crystal clarity with a Secchi depth of 43 feet, and a thick mud layer over granite with scarce bottom life. Limited shoreline camps and small inflows help explain the lake s high purity and minimal pollution.
