CBS Ends Garry Moore Show Moves Smothers Brothers In

Television in Review reports CBS-TV formally canceled the Garry Moore hour on Thanksgiving Day. The final Sunday broadcast is January 8 with February 5 set for the Smothers Brothers in a new variety series. Between those dates CBS will air three specials in the Moore slot. The Smothers Brothers previously had a short lived half hour on CBS last season playing two brothers one living in the real world and the other a deceased angel. The show faltered due to leaden plots and weak pacing.

Prosperity Brings New Problems to Thailand

UPI analyst Phil Newsom assesses Bangkok’s wartime prosperity as mixed, with new markets and modern buildings clashing with elders’ fears for tradition. He warns that rapid growth financed by a $200 million military program and 33,000 American troops could signal Southeast Asia’s war expanding into Thailand, echoing patterns from Laos and South Vietnam.
