Williams College professor urges drastic reform if Democrats win
Prof. James M. Burns of Williams College tells Young Democrats that a 1972 Democratic victory requires a plan for drastic government reform. He backs local to state advisory councils, reestablishment of the National Advisory Council, and an annual party conference despite expected fragmentation. He questions Sen. Edward Kennedy's readiness in 1972 and notes youth revolt as evidence that conflict drives politics. Meanwhile in Pittsfield James P. McCauley pleads guilty to remaining Berkshire stolen car racket counts and gets 23 months to run concurrently. In Williamstown the School Building Committee approves a final hexagonal Mitchell School plan and seeks state bureau approval.
