Hearst trial delayed six weeks amid mental fitness claims
Patricia Hearst will face a delay in her bank robbery trial from December 15 to January 26 as her attorneys seek to mount a defense they say hinges on her mental condition. Defense lawyers praised the postponement saying her condition has improved enough for adequate representation. The case raises questions under the speedy trial act and centers on Hearst’s time with the Symbionese Liberation Army and mental competency ruling.
