Supreme Court hearing on ballot access and notarization burden
The court heard arguments over equal protection in Vermont ballot access. Thomas argued notarization deters signatures and imposes costs, while Griffin said third parties face no inherent extra difficulty and that after obtaining 1500 to 1600 notarized signatures a candidate qualifies. Griffin noted majors must gather 500 unaudited signatures and win a primary. He cited third party success in 25 of 28 elections. The court planned an agreement by December 3.
