Salmon eggs inseminated hope to restore Connecticut River stock
At the New Marlborough federal hatchery 30 000 eggs from Penobscot females were inseminated with a Connecticut River male, aiming to imprint the progeny to the river. The eggs go to Pittsford for incubation and the elvers will return to the Connecticut after two years in custody. If successful, descendants may replenish the river’s Atlantic salmon population.
