Taxpayers push for Troy audit amid budget concerns
A group of Troy taxpayers urged an in-depth audit of the city's finances after a two hour budget hearing. They plan to request the audit through the city council, and then with state help if needed. The 1969 budget proposes a $6.68 per $1,000 tax increase. About 60 residents attended despite a snowstorm and called the city's handling of finances shocking. In county data, about 51 percent of Rensselaer County property is tax exempt, with Troy at 46 percent totaling $92 million. In Albany, New York State exports climbed to 78 million dollars under the state Commerce Department program, a limit given industry and farmer participation.

He says Nixon will tackle deep national problems with a progressive thrust, especially in the first two years, despite his narrow victory over Humphrey. Fisher notes Nixon’s campaigns in 1960 and 1962 and suggests policies may be viewed as middle of the road or retrenchment by some.
