Geologist Explains Vermonts Ancient Beginnings At Rotary Lunch
Dr. Frederick Burt a geologist from Union Street told Bennington Rotarians that Vermont began 1.8 billion years ago when it was a marine area with lobster like inhabitants. He described crustal movement forming domes and troughs, muds turning to slate and marble, and granite forming as the land rose and eroded into a plain later lifted into a plateau sculpted into the Green Mountains and Taconic range. Separately two people were hospitalized after an automobile crash on Monument Avenue Extension with injuries including a severe facial lac eration eye and leg fracture.
