Silverless coins take over in US circulation shift
United Press International reports that the move from silver coins to copper nickels and copper nickel dimes and quarters aims to prevent a coin shortage. Officials warn of hoarding and collector demand, but expect the Treasury to endure the transition with the Mint’s new high speed presses needed to keep up.
