Governor Philip Hoff, 42, led Democrats to a landslide victory over Republican Richard Snelling to claim a third two year term. Republican Robert Stafford retained Vermont’s lone U.S. House seat, defeating William Ryan. Turnout was high for an off year with about 136000 voters.

Water Bond Okayed In Bennington Vote
Bennington voters approved a 310000 bond to develop a new water source with a 1717 to 550 tally at a special town meeting during the general election. The grant of 188500 will cover much of construction and land costs for a Bolles Brook diversion dam, settling basin, and 3.5 mile pipeline to Bennington Village reservoirs. Construction expected spring 1967, 12 to 18 months. The project, proposed by the water board as agent for the selectmen, aims to augment the area's supply through 20th century.
