Arlington hunter shoots fellow hunter mistaken for turkey
Vermont state police report a Sunday morning shooting in Arlington when 18 year old Robert W. Phillips fired at what he thought was a turkey and struck Bernard J. Ludwig Jr. Ludwig, 42, of Arlington, was rushed to Putnam Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Albany Medical Center in serious condition. Separate incidents include a burglary at the Vermont Liquor Store in Pownal and various motor vehicle collisions in Bennington. Mendon woman Ellen Prior saved her 3 year old son after he fell into a pond, reviving him with mouth to mouth. Betty Jane Belanus, 21, of Vergennes, received a $470 humanities grant to study sheep raising in Addison County.
