Del Bennett, a 67 or 68 year old bachelor nicknamed the hermit by MSU students, lives on two acres near Michigan State University. He stores firewood and walnuts to heat and sustain himself, relying on a potbelly stove and kerosene lamp. He rents land from the university for 50 dollars yearly and prefers life without electricity, saying he grew up here and does not miss modern conveniences.

Maine weighs setup of new state lottery director post
Maine officials study how to establish a state lottery with a governor appointing a director and a five member commission. The plan calls for expert help from other states, a payroll framework, and a consulting firm to implement drawing mechanics and prize structures. Revenue from prizes and state coffers depends on final rules and timing. The measure awaits verification of the vote, with nominations barred for 30 days after the tally and seven days prior to council approval.
