Carter delays nine nation trip to push energy bill

President Carter postpones a nine nation tour to stay in Washington during Congress deliberations on the administration energy program. Vance announced the move saying the aims include signaling the impact of energy policy on the world economy and planning to reschedule for December or late January.

Galbraith Wins Vermont Democratic Chair in Upset

Peter Galbraith of Townshend defeated Burlington Chair Anne Rothenberg 23 to 15 to become the new Vermont Democratic Committee chairman. He will address a $20,000 leftover 1976 campaign debt and reorganize the party amid Chittenden County leadership tensions. Marie Baldwin of Middlebury was chosen as vice chair.

Mistrial Declared in Battick Civil Suit

UPI reports Burlington District Court Judge Albert Coffrin declared a mistrial in a $5 million civil suit filed by Edward Battick, a convicted murderer. After about 10 hours of deliberations, the jury awarded Battick $5,000 in damages and found former Manchester policeman Eugene Gaiotti not negligent in shooting Battick during a 1972 burglary attempt.

Two Convicted In Bolles Car Bomb Murder Case

James Robison and Max Dunlap were convicted of murder and conspiracy in the Don Bolles car bomb case. The eight to four jury deliberated nearly 40 hours before delivering verdicts as prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. John Adamson, the key witness who pleaded guilty to second degree murder, testified that Dunlap hired him to kill Bolles. Robison allegedly activated the bomb. Adamson said Dunlap sought revenge for Bolles reporting that harmed Kemper Marley Sr.

Mullin Wins Top Vermont GOP Post Ousting Kennedy

James Mullin a Burlington insurance man who began campaigning just ten days ago won the state Republican chairmanship in Montpelier, defeating incumbent Walter Kennedy and blocking Thomas Haley Sr. Haley said Mullin drew support from younger voters. The committee also elected Clair Duke vice chairman Peter ValPreda treasurer and Grace Hawkins secretary.

Bennington BCIC awaits 1.2 million EDA grant decision

An aide to U S Senator Stafford said a final decision on a 1.2 million EDA Title I grant for the Bennington County Industrial Corp is expected within two weeks and appears likely to be approved. The grant would fund renovations of the former Economy Graphics plant in North Bennington.
