In the central highlands near An Khe the U S Army 1st Cavalry Division helicopters collided in flight and crashed today. A U S military spokesman announced there were no survivors.
Washington authorities confront the Clayton Civic Club in Georgia over allegations it served as a cover for the United Klans of America. An IRS disclosure shows club president Fred Hand cited 85 members and a mission to aid the sick, while vice president Jimmy Wells asserted Fifth Amendment protections during testimony. The hearing continues next week.
Lt. Gov John J Daley blasted Forests and Parks chief Perry Merrill over secrecy in Vermont about the Rutland Railroad right of way. He noted the dispute with Outdoor Recreation Planner Richard Macomber and tied it to a wider clash of personalities affecting state governance and shore line stakes on Lake Champlain.

London reports say NATO allies backed forming a nuclear planning committee including West Germany, to be discussed at the November 26 27 defense ministers meeting in Paris. France will not participate. Portugal Iceland and Luxembourg unlikely to attend. The plan originated in the United States to give allies a voice in nuclear strategy. McNamara may visit London ahead of the Paris talks. The ministers will report to the annual NATO council in Paris.
The NLRB opened a hearing at the Bennington plant to decide which Globe Union Inc employes will vote on forming a bargaining unit. The UAW and UE have cards supporting representation, with three possible vote options once scheduled. The case centers on which job classifications should be included, including or excluding several technical roles and the sanitor-watchman post. About 95 to 125 workers may be involved depending on NLRB rulings.
UPI reports U.S. spy in the sky satellites will photographe eyes on Russia's Baikonur cosmodrome amid signals of a possible manned space venture. Proton 2's orbit from Baikonur spurs concern, with Samos cameras watching for new launch pads and activity at the cosmodrome and related sites in Kazakhstan.
Paris dispatch reports President Charles de Gaulle to announce whether he will seek a second seven year term in the December 5 election. Aides offered only that a brief address would indicate oui or non with the televised and radio address set for 2 p.m. EST. The short speech and guarded preparation point to a likely no decision.
President Johnson signed the 1965 farm bill at his Texas ranch before the midnight deadline and launched the National Commission on Food and Fiber to study how farm policy affects the economy and U.S. foreign relations. Sherwood Berg named chairman. a separate committee will push tech advances to farmers. The four year measure envisions about $4 billion in price supports for 1966.
