80 Foot Tower Extends Radio Range For Bennington Fire
The Bennington Fire Department installed an 80 foot aluminum radio tower on the Village and Town Office Building. Fire Chief Henry E. White said the tower will greatly extend radio range and improve firefighting reach. The antenna cost $50 and was erected by White, Forrest Hassam, and Victor Damour after last weekend’s installation amid showers. The tower rises about 40 feet above the old antenna, enabling signals to reach mobile units and relay to walkie talkies over a wider area including forest fires. Civil Defense Chairman William Mattison reported a strong signal north of Manchester. Village Police will connect to the antenna soon.
