Chicano hijacks jetliner to Cuba
A United Airlines 727 from San Diego to Los Angeles was seized by a Mexican American hijacker who announced a Cuba mission. The plane refueled in Tijuana and Havana before returning to the United States with six crew and 65 passengers aboard. He held a stewardess at gunpoint and ignored fuel limits, saying he did not care about his life or his two children on the flight. The incident followed another hijacking to Cuba the previous night.
