Meat grading standards held up by federal judge
U.S. District Court Judge Robert Denney permanently blocked the USDA from implementing proposed nationwide meat grading standards. He cited consumer impact and inflation concerns, noting the new rules were unnecessary for yield grading and would affect workers, competition, and energy use. The injunction had been in place since April 11 after the Independent Meat Packers Association of Omaha filed for relief. The government appealed and an appeals court upheld the temporary injunction, ordering a full hearing.
