BBS Status in Peril By State Board Action

Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester faced renewed scrutiny as the state Board of Education dropped three small high schools from approved status for failing to meet minimum standards. Groton High, McIndoes Academy, and Shoreham High were not approved as of July 1 and risked closure, while BBS received no waiver and had its deadline deferred to June 19 for a site visit in Bennington.

State's Two-Faced, BBS Trustee Charges

Burr and Burton Seminary trustee accused the state Education Department of saying one thing and doing another over BBS approval for 1967 68. The board voted to classify BBS as verging on disapproval with final decision after a June 19 visit, amid tensions over minimum standards and a stalled grant to convert the gym into a arts center.

Arlington OKs third school bond to expand high school

Arlington voters approved two bond measures to fund expansion of Arlington Memorial High School with a 272 to 224 vote and Fisher Elementary with a 289 to 209 vote. An additional measure to aid state financing passed 324 to 171. The move frees space for Grades 7-12, adds classrooms, a library, workrooms, and supports accreditation efforts by the NEACSS, said Principal William Towne.
