Floating Bridge Stretches Across Sunset Lake in Brookfield
Brookfield Vermont hosts New England’s only permanent floating bridge on Sunset Lake. Engineer Louis Bjorn notes a $12,000, 20 foot long wooden structure atop 380 barrels, designed in 1986, linking Brookfield’s two parts. The 1884 prototype by Orlando Ralph inspired this later version, which costs about $1,000 yearly to maintain and is closed in winter.
