The Labor Department reports cost of living edged up 0.2 percent in April led by higher prices for men's clothing used cars and restaurant meals. Food costs fell at supermarkets while meats poultry and fresh vegetables eased but fruit prices rose with fewer bananas and early strawberries.
A 105 resident Bennington area poll led by Thomas Haley Jr and Sen. William Doyle surveys opinions on a potential 1976 Vermont presidential primary, the 1972 presidency, and the state governorship. It shows strong support for a national primary, mixed views on abortion timelines, and varied appetites for increased state spending across education health and law enforcement with welfare least favored. The mock primary favored Nixon, McGovern led the Democratic side, and James Jeffords topped the governor balloting.

VSSDA backs changing state law rather than suing the Education Department over driver education financing. Otter Valley Union School Board sought a class action to remove the mandatory provision or obtain full funding. Association Director Charles Nichols said no case exists due to an attorney general opinion, which says appropriations do not meet the law’s intent.
