Tri-State Festival Opens With Parades Bands and Choral
Hundreds of musicians from New York Massachusetts and southwestern Vermont gathered in Bennington for the two day Tri-State Festival featuring a choral concert parade and band performances. Directors received praise as 12 schools performed with Napoleon W Ianni directing bands from Manchester West Rutland and Otter Valley. Parades led by Harry Eddington begin at 4 p m with Miss Gail Ann Horst parade marshal and Miss Jeanne Hurley leading the lead bands. Weather forecast fair skies.

The Rev. John H. Hyde, 70, a retired minister and World War I Navy chaplain, died at his Portland home. He served Congregational churches in Lansford Pennsylvania Adams Massachusetts and Biddeford Maine before retiring in 1956 and published the novel Whither in 1959 under the pen name Jack Hyde.
