Scramble begins for job funds in Vermont
President Carter's four billion dollar public works job bill will bring an estimated thirty million dollars to Vermont including five million for Bennington County. A workshop for town officials is set for May 26 at 1 30 p m at the Manchester Town Offices to assist in submitting new applications and completing engineering reports. Renewal forms will be sent May 26 through June 1, with two weeks to resubmit. New project applications must be filed June 1 through 14. The workshop aims to help with the complex federal forms.

Bennington Water Board slashes town manager aide pay
The Bennington Water Board cut 5800 dollars from funding for the town manager's assistant as part of budgeting during a 2 1/2 hour meeting. They argued the expense was not proper water revenue and that board members could handle the duties themselves. The vote to approve the overall budget of 222 705 followed 5 2. Tensions rose over authority and communication with the board of selectmen, with critics accusing past leadership of ineffectiveness and calling for better budget involvement, minutes, and accounting practices ahead of a looming Safe Drinking Water Act deadline. The board noted delinquent water taxes totaling 78 000 and discussed sinking fund balances and potential cash flow issues.
